Lawrence and Suzanna Alexander live
on Alexzanna Farms, a fifty acre piece of nature located in
Wildwood, Georgia.
Lawrence, an archaeologist, began
gardening at age seven with his grandfather in California.
Suzanna, a retired physical
therapist, grew up as a true southerner running through her
father's corn patch.
In
1990 they began their gardens, which are
cared for in harmony with the Steiner-Findhorn philosophies
and
without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or
fungicides. Produce from the Certified Naturally Grown
garden,
eggs from the free-range, pastured
poultry, fish from the spring-fed lake, fruit from the heirloom
orchard,
as
well as muscadines, pawpaws, figs, various berries and
shiitake mushrooms fill their plates.
In
the family gardening tradition, they share their garden's
excesses at the Main Street Market in Chattanooga.
Springs' strawberries, asparagus,
lettuces, herbs and flowers are followed by summer vegetables,
melons, potatoes and corn.
They feel that sharing the healthy, fresh energy of the
earth's abundance in a joyful market setting is both a
pleasure and a privilege.
